Broken Knight: LJ Shen (SPOILERS)

Blurb:

Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.

Luna Rexroth is everyone’s favorite wallflower.

Sweet.
Caring.
Charitable.
Quiet.
Fake.
Underneath the meek, tomboy exterior everyone loves (yet pities) is a girl who knows exactly what, and who, she wantsβ€”namely, the boy from the treehouse who taught her how to curse in sign language.
Who taught her how to laugh.
To live.
To love.
Knight Cole is everyone’s favorite football hero.
Gorgeous.
Athletic.
Rugged.
Popular.
Liar.

This daredevil hell-raiser could knock you up with his gaze alone, but he only has eyes for the girl across the street: Luna.

But Luna is not who she used to be. She doesn’t need his protection anymore.
When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.

Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.

Broken Knight literally broke me. Let’s start with the love story. I am not always a fan of friends to lovers stories but this one was amazing. My personal love story was a friends to lovers so don’t ask me why I don’t like reading them…I’m weird.

Knight was broken down by so many things in his life that weren’t under his control. I was torn at times with him. He was a little immature at times which caused me to be mad at him.

Luna was a whole other story. I was shocked that she gave her virginity to someone else. I understood that she thought Knight was sleeping around so it didn’t matter but that was a plot twist from Shen I did not see coming. Luna was strong in ways and weak in others. Throughout the book, you witnessed her change. She went from a recluse to speaking in the most important ways.

So although the book was about Luna and Knight the main thing that got to me was Rosie.

Little back story. This week I am going through a lot. My grandfather fell and was taken to the hospital. He is 86 years old and just done. He was given the option to continue treatment which he declined. The doctors said he has a week at most to live. His last request is to pass away at home, in the home he built and where my grandmother passed away.

Now I know most have cried while reading this book but I don’t know if another book has pushed me to my emotional limits as much as this book did. Rosies story is was exactly what I am currently going through in life. My poor husband didn’t know whether to hug me or leave me alone which is what I had asked of him.

LJ Shen broke my heart but in a good way. It was good for me to watch the characters grow from this experience and I hope I do the same in my own life.

Crew Princess: Tijan

Blurb:

Being crew is walking between two worlds.Β
One world is normal: Prom. Parties. College.Β
Those are the concerns they worry about.Β

In our world, we deal with other situations.Β
Cops. Drugs. Brawling.Β
That’s a typical day for us.Β

But what if it wasn’t?Β

What if there came a day when you stopped?Β
When you considered letting your enemies win?Β
When you didn’t fight back?Β
When you chose a different path?Β

First I lost my family. Then I got the Wolf Crew.Β
I couldn’t lose them too.Β

But what happens when Cross, Zellman, and Jordan keep going…
…and I don’t?

I was so looking forward to this book. I first started reading Tijan about a year ago with Ryan’s Bed. It was such a powerful story and one of the only books that made me bawl my eyes out. Since that book I have been disappointed in her books. They have seemed to drag on and on. Crew was a step up from the rest because Bren was so strong but Crew Princess just fell flat for me.

I loved that Bren was still the strong crew member that was portrayed in the original Crew. She was a chick that did not put up with anything and I admired her for that. Cross was still the strong crew leader I remembered and although there wasn’t the PDA you normally see in high school love stories, you could feel how much Cross loved Bren.

The book lost its five wolf review for me because although Bren was a scrappy girl, she was also woah me the whole book. She was emotionally unattached throughout the whole book. I felt her voice would have been monotone if this was an audiobook.

The storyline was really uneventful to me. The first half of the book was just boring. I didn’t find myself engrossed in the book like I would have wanted. There were a few interesting parts but they weren’t there until the last 25% of the book. I hate that I didn’t like it because I really wanted to. Talking myself into finishing the book was hard but I did it and I am glad I did because the ending was much better than the rest of the book.

There will be a third book in the series since the ending left us with a cliffhanger. This book did leave me with a few questions like who was the random girl in the woods to them, and what happens after high school. Guess we will have to wait and see…

Good Girls: Max Henry

πŸ‘’πŸ‘’πŸ‘’πŸ‘’πŸ‘’

Blurb:

Caught between two worlds, I no longer know who I am.

I was one of the Chosen. Four girls, and four boys, destined to have it all: wealth, status, and a future. Now, I find myself on the other side looking for a way back in.

My father’s criminal case meant we lost it all. Forced out of our home, our city, our life, we started anew in a sweet country town called Arcadia.

Except after one day as β€œthe new girl” I know there isn’t a single sweet thing about Arcadia High. Boys versus girls. Those who have it all versus those who’d do anything to get it.

Trouble brews amongst the student body. Love, lies, and betrayal. And when the consequences spill out the decorative gates?Β

These spoilt country kids won’t know what hit them after the city come to collect.

So sometimes after reading a book I feel like I need to hit something. This was one of those times.

The beginning of the book had us meeting Lacey. She was forced out of a life of privilege to a life in the sticks. Her mother has instilled in her that she will one day be the best wife to a rich man. While this may still be the case, her mother did not allow her to stick up for herself, gain weight, or talk back.

Moving to a new school came with eye opening challenges. This school has classes that teach you not only math, science and social studies but how to manage a farm. The kids are put off by her and her brother, Colt. They don’t like the way they hold themselves above others. To be honest, neither did I. The first 30% of this book I did not like Lacey. She was a stuck up bitch in my opinion.

After coming out of her mothers shadow some she regained herself. I felt like Max Henry developed her character so well that I was loving her in the end. I was like flooded with the ending though. I was so mad with the cliffhanger that I wanted to physically abuse my iPad. Waiting till August (although its only a few weeks away) seems like forever for the next book.

Well done Max. I applaud your ability to turn a character around in my eyes.

Teardrop Shot: Tijan (Contains Spoilers)

Blurb:

I asked for his criteria for bed buddies-that’s the PG version.

He swore at me and said he didn’t do groupies. And just like that, our friendship was off to a great start.

Reese Forster was the starting point guard for the Seattle Thunder.

Gorgeous. Cocky. Loved by the nation.

He’s also attending preseason basketball training camp where I used to work.

Correction: where I work again, because I was fired from my last job.

And dumped.

And I might have a tiny bit of baggage, but that’s normal. Right?

Reese and I shouldn’t have become friends. We shouldn’t have become roommates.

And we really shouldn’t have started sleeping together … (Except we did.)

I’m adorably psychotic. He’s in the NBA.

This is not a disaster waiting to happen, at all.

Tijan. She knows how to pull your heart out with the emotion she puts into her books. This book was no different. It will make you laugh out loud and cry like a baby. Let’s just say even my dogs were looking at me funny.

The book begins by introducing us to Charlie. She is a mess of epic proportions. When things get tough, she uses random questions to direct the attention off of herself. She has hidden away from friends and family for years and is just starting to emerge. The random questions are so funny! I will say that I started to answer some of these questions myself for pure fun.

Charlie goes back to her childhood camp to work for the summer after losing her job and being dumped by her current boyfriend (by his grandfather). All of the people at the camp are friends and it is just like being back in time. I loved that all of her friends know that Charlie is weird and don’t even comment on her random questions.

The camp caters to the elite at times and this is no exception. Charlie gets the chance to cater to the best team in NBA and her favorite player, Reese. Reese starts out as a jerk but actually answers Charlies crazy questions. They banter back and forth but don’t expand until later in the book.

Reese is going through his own emotional hardship with his brother. His brother is in and out of jail. He sometimes pretends to be Reese and at times feels like Reese owes him.

Charlies story was much harder to hear. When she finally opens up, it is to Reese. She was in a relationship for many years to a man that had early onset dementia. I remember when a family member went through this and was able to relate with some of the scenes she describes. It is hard to let someone else in once the person you are supposed to marry doesn’t even remember you.

I loved how Reese was not only able to help Charlie heal but allowed Charlie into his life as first a friend then a partner. The friendship in the beginning was the best part of this story in my point of view. I don’t believe you can have a true love story without a strong friendship. Tijan pulled me into this friendship then relationship just how I would have wanted in real life.

I bow down Tijan. You have done it again.

I knew I’d ruffle feathers, but the day I walked into Rockport High, I had no idea the cheap shots that were to follow.

You see, the Ballers and I have a history. They play basketball. I play basketball. But they hate that I play basketball as good as them. And the only thing they hate more than that, is me.

That’s right. I’m a girl, and I. Can. Play. Make no mistake about it.

The Ballers can do their worst, but I will earn a spot on the RHS boys’ team. This is my last resort to make a name for myself, and I can’t let them interfereβ€”even if the so-called kings of the school have declared war against me.

This is the first book I have read by E.M. Moore and I LOVED IT!

The book began a bit confusing for me. We are introduced to Tessa at the turning point in her life. She is switching schools from an elite private school to go to the public high school. The beginning explains that she has history with the main male characters but doesn’t go into further detail.

Throughout the book you learn more about her history with these five men. Some are easier to like than other but make no mistake, they do bully her. Tessa is tough and driven. Her goal to play basketball is what made me like her. She didn’t let anything stop her in pursuing her dreams.

There were many cringe worthy moments with the guys. I was nervous in one scene that we weren’t going to be able to find any redeeming qualities in the guys. Although the main story was centered around Tessa and the guys there were also side stories that added to the intensity of this book.

We grew with Tessa but I felt her story also included her family as well. Her mother was going through heartbreak and the author portrayed this through her words. Her family was a mess but I truly hated her father. He was not a good father. I felt like he was absent when Tessa needed him the most.

As the book progressed I began to love the men in her life but at the end I was ready to throw my iPad at the wall. This book ended with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. I am ready for August because this book left me with a major hangover.

I would highly recommend this book. It was a great read and I am ready to dive into the next book.

Some people say revenge is a dish best served cold. I say it’s better hot.Β

My name is Elle Payne, and I never thought I’d be back at River High, but I amβ€”and there are three boys calling my name. Christian Moore, Alec Perry, and Xander Hill. The Dick Squad. The three boys who made my life a living hell growing up.

They won’t see me coming. They might’ve forgotten about me, but I didn’t forget about them. My memories burn, and I want nothing more than to destroy them the same way they destroyed me.

Six years ago I did something I’m not proud of. Surrounded by bullying and my parents’ failing marriage, I tried to end it all, but I failed.

I am stronger now than I ever was before, and even if it’s the last thing I do, the Dick Squad will pay for what they did to me. This revenge will be the sweetest of all, because it’s one they’ll never see coming.

Breaking their hearts should be easy. Protecting mine might not be.

What an amazing book. I was a little hesitant because all of the bullying was in the past and you didn’t get the full picture of what happened prior to her coming back but Candace did a great job of filling in the blanks.Β

Elle was a spiteful girl for sure! Being bullied and pushed toward ending your life is not an easy subject to read. The turmoil this girl went through as a child was horrible. I felt so bad for her that she had no one. Her father was lost in his own world, her mother was an alcoholic at first, and school was not an escape from home life. The way you watch Elle grow throughout the book was amazing. She was a badass at the beginning. She knew what she was coming back to and knew what she wanted to do. Throughout the book you watch her evolve into a different person, one who can be liked by all and is easy to love.

Alec was so cheesy and easygoing. Although he wasn’t as forceful in his bullying towards Elle, he still stood by and watched it occur. He was the easiest to like in the book I believe.

Xander was a dark shadow of a man in need of a lot of love from Elle. His story development was almost as touching as Elle’s. I enjoyed reading him come out of his shell and emerge as a confident young man.

Christian was a sore spot for me. I found it hard to like him (which I’m sure is what the author wanted) and even harder to accept after everything was done. If I had it my way, I probably would have left him out of the HEA.

This story, at times, was hard to read. The emotions poured into the book will be felt by all. I was glad to be able to get the after effects of bullying and the healing that was able to come from it. This was a great first read from Candace Wondrak.

The Help: Callie Rose (ARC)

Blurb:

Rich boys don’t fraternize with the help.

They don’t torture the help.

They don’tΒ craveΒ the help.

For as long as I can remember, my mom and I have lived on the edge of ruin, so when she finally gets a decent job offer, she moves us cross-country to take it.

Who cares if it means working as a live-in housekeeper for a man wealthier than God? The paycheck is good, and it comes with a roof over our heads.

She even manages to get me enrolled in the fancy prep academy his son goes toβ€”the kind that spits out future CEOs and politicians like a vending machine.

But this new town has a few things my old one didn’t…

Like secrets that could get a person killed, and four of the hottest, meanest guys I’ve ever met.

I might live in their world now, but I amΒ notΒ a part of it, and they’ll do whatever it takes to remind me of that.

We go to school together, live together, and share a dangerous secret, but as far as Lincoln, River, Dax, and Chase are concerned…

I’m just the help.

Have you ever finished a book angry? That was me during this book! I was just left hanging off the edge of a cliff (cliffhanger) with no chance of someone coming by with a rope to pull my up.

The Help was an amazing book. Callie put the romance, suspense, and mystery into this one.

The book starts with us being introduced to Harlow. She is a strong, capable teen who has been through more than most have in 80 years of living. I enjoyed her fight in this book. Although she didn’t aggressively fight back, she also didn’t put up with everything that was thrown at her. I felt it was okay to sometimes just let things slide to avoid more conflict.

The boys were interesting. There were the twins, Dax and Chase. They didn’t stick with me like the other two did though. I knew she felt connected to them and maybe they were just her shoulders to lean on during hard times but I didn’t become attached to them like I would have liked.

Lincoln was probably the most memorable out of the four. He was a brooding teenage boy. He had a stereotype draw up when he met Harlow and was not willing to look past it. He was hot and cold in an instant but towards the end, I felt like he gained some points back.

River was probably my favorite. There wasn’t a single moment that stood out for me when it came to him, but his disability was what made me gravitate towards him.

The suspense was drawn out and not getting a conclusion made me want to throw my iPad across the room. You are left with a giant cliffhanger in this book that will have you screaming. Based on some of the other reviews I have read as well, other readers feel the same. So be warned! This book does not come with a HEA. It comes with a WTF at the end.

Happy reading!!!

This book is a mind fuck in the best way! I could not put it down. I read for 6 hours straight and only paused to pee. Let me attempt to put into words the greatness that is this book without giving anything away.

Starting off I want to say I was broken when Tillie and Nate lost their child. Being a mother myself, I can’t even imagine going through that. I was a little upset with how they handled losing a child. I felt like they weren’t as upset as I would have wanted them to be, but considering their personalities I think it was appropriate.

This book not only went into Tillie and Nate’s stories but continued on with Bishop and Madison’s. Madison made me so angry. She turned into a brat. She took for granted all the love that Bishop could give and when things go tough, she ran.

It also added in an additional player that I have the feeling we will be seeing in the future. Bentley was one of my favorites in this book. He was such a good support system for Tillie and even though he is one scary motherfucker, I fell in love with him.

Amo put so many layers in this book. Her writing style takes you into another realm where you are witnessing everything that is happening as if you are there. I am so into her books that I even tried to explain the different people in them to my husband (I don’t think he cared…). I can’t wait to continue on in this series and I may go back and reread it.

The book releases on June 11th. Get it! You won’t regret it.

The Secret Girl: C.M. Stunich

Blurb:

Shh, I have a secret.
The four sinfully gorgeous kings of this schoolβ€”Church, Ranger, Micah and Tobiasβ€”can’t ever find out.
I already get picked on because my father’s the headmaster.
I don’t need them to know I’m the only girl, too; I’d rather dress like a boy.
Adamson All-Boys Academy now has its only female student, but I’m not about to be their guinea pig.
Not when there’s a secret at this school nobody is talking about. Not when the last female student here ended up dead.

I was not looking forward to this book. When I read the blurb, I thought I wasn’t going to like it. The concept of a girl acting like a guy just wasn’t something that I wanted to read. After talking to a friend and reading all the 5 star reviews, I decided to give it a try.

I didn’t care for Charolette at first. She was a demanding character that didn’t give off the best vibes. I wasn’t the only one to think this because all of the male characters agreed. The author warns you in the beginning of the book to stick it out because you will grow to love her and I sure did.

The male characters were interesting because they weren’t your normal jocks. They were a part of the student council. Odd, I know. They each had a characteristic that I enjoyed. The twins weren’t my favorite at first because I just couldn’t get over how many times Charolette said she couldn’t tell them apart. Church was an enigma to me. He was either hot or cold and had very little personality (again, I think that’s how the author wanted him to be portrayed). One of my favorites was Spencer. He was funny even when I don’t think he was meant to come off that way. The other characters were great as well but not to the point I feel like mentioning.

I absolutely wanted to reach my hand into the book and strangle her father. He was an ass. Just horrible. I hate how he refused to listen to his daughter and didn’t take her feelings into consideration.

There was one missing part in this book that I feel didn’t satisfy my curiosity, her mother. She was mentioned many times but never in great detail. We learn that she has a drug problem but not much more.

This book left us with he cliffhangers of all cliffhangers. C.M. better get her stuff together so we can figure out what happens next. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series!

They’re the best of friends or the worst of friends. Neither one is letting go.

THE FLAME

Here lies Louchana Valentine. She was a homeless, orphaned virgin.

I never cared what my gravestone would say until I landed in deep with a powerful gangster. Lucky for me, my best friend happens to be ruthless too. I should feel guilty that he’s forced to turn on the man who’s been a father to him. Except I’ve always known that Wren’s soul wasn’t as black as he claimed.

He was good.
He was beautiful.
He was mine.
He just didn’t know it yet.

And with Wren keeping me safe, I’ve got time left to rewrite the end of my story. But if he has his way,Β virginΒ is already carved in stone.

THE MOTH

I’ve never known anyone as alluring as Lou. Or as frustrating. Since the night she saved my life and stole my wallet for her troubles, I couldn’t stay away.

She became my onus.
My light.
My…anyway.

With nowhere to run, I’m forced to trust someone I never expected. At least with Lou safe in Blackwood Keep–farΒ away from me–I’ll die with my conscience intact. Because she no longer looks at me with friendship in her eyes. Those iridescent blues shine with a different need entirely, and I’ve never been able to deny her.

I have not read one book by B.B. that I haven’t loved. Most of her books have a sense of bully in them but this was a complete change.

I loved every second of it. I’m not one for friends to lovers but this book was it for me. The way these two characters grew together and loved each other throughout was perfect.

Wren chasing Lou was one of my favorite things about this book. Also, the funny moments. I don’t normally see funny parts in her books but there were some parts that had me laughing out loud. I don’t think I will ever think of Pepsi the same again.

Thank you so much B.B. for writing such a phenomenal book. I can’t wait to continue on in this series.
